The Gaming Giant Recruits Popular Battle Royale Developer to Revitalize Struggling Action Game Ambitious Title

The renowned publisher has appointed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to lead the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently crafting the forthcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Leadership Change Comes After Lukewarm Response

The new appointee takes on the role of studio head at the development studio following the exit of former leader the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was reportedly let go due to the game's disappointing unveiling last autumn.

Recently, 2K president David Ismailer updated employees about this organizational change through an official communication, which stressed that early feedback sessions had revealed the necessity for a more defined direction.

Ismailer expressed that the team is now reimagining the project with a revised focus, aiming to satisfy gamer demands.

Trend of Strategic Recruitment

The news echoes a similar move taken by 2K Games in August, when they hired Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to contribute to the beloved franchise development group.

Here is the full message from the president's communication:

Team—

I understand you all just finished your gathering - I trust you’re as excited as I am with the recent updates. Last time I shared you all a note, I stated the following: “I am confident in this team. You all are some of the most driven and talented developers we have had the chance to work with - and we’re excited for that collaboration to continue.”

With your dedication and adaptability, especially over the past twelve months, you consistently demonstrate that.

The community feedback from last fall’s Project ETHOS playtest was informative. It validated the promise of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had work to do. It uncovered the necessity for a clearer identity.

The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve come. You accepted the criticism to mind and reimagined the title with a renewed vision - one that’s ready to deliver on its promise to our players.

Our confidence in Project ETHOS grows every day. To advance the incredible advancement you’ve made, It is a pleasure to announce Ben Brinkman as the incoming Director of 31st Union. After several months of discussions, he officially joins us on Monday, October 20.

His guidance and expertise in the competitive gaming space is extensive, having dedicated the past decade and a half creating and managing some of the most popular franchises in gaming, including the acclaimed shooter, and most recently, the battle royale hit.

Let’s together in receiving Ben soon. We are all eager to persist observing the evolution of the game in the months to come.

The President

Background of the New Leader

The appointee currently holds the position of executive producer and head of production at Respawn Entertainment for their flagship title. Brinkman earlier worked at major gaming companies in various production roles on the iconic franchise games, and, prior to that, had stints at other industry leaders.

Title Information and Vision

Project Ethos was revealed in last year alongside a early access event. At the time, the developers presented the title as a "no-cost, 3rd-person action-packed experience and an exciting advancement on the genre."

"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Build your hero in live gameplay to match your preferred approach," the game's pitch explains. "Face the competition with unique powers, risks, and challenges that change every round. Do you safely extract with your hard-earned loot? Alternatively aim high, put it on the line, and pray your squad can achieve the highest spot? The choice is up to you."

The game has not yet received an official debut schedule or consoles, but enthusiasts can look forward to further news as production advances.
